Buchempfehlung - Trash (Englisch)
Definitely no Trash!
Trash is a book, written by Andy Mulligan. At first I want to tell you some facts about the author. He was born in South London, where he lived during he was a child. Later he worked as a theatre director for ten years, before he travelled to Asia to work as a teacher. He has taught English and Drama in Britain, India, Brazil and the Philippines. On his trip to Brazil, he visited the city Manila. There he saw a dumpsite which is called Behala. There were a lot of poor children playing in the Trash and looking for something to eat. They have no family and no home. Near the dumpsite is a Mission school which helps the children to survive. After this trip to Behala Andy Mulligan was shocked, but also inspired to write a book about it.
Thrash is about three friends: Raphael, Gardo and Rat. They are living at the Behala dumpsite. Every day they look in the Trash for something they could sell. With the money they buy food or clothes. The Mission school near the dumpsite helps them and teaches them to read and to count. Usually the three boys find old paper, plastic or old food in the trash and sell it on the street. But one day, Raphael finds a bag made of leather.
Inside the bag they find a lot of money and later a passport from a man who is called Jose Angelico. At first they are very happy but after a few days the police arrives.
They ask if the three boys have found a bag and say they will give them a lot of money, when they hand it out. Later Gardo says, they have found something, but when the policeman asks what, Raphael answers, it was just an old shoe they have found because he does not trust the police. The policemen know that Raphael lies, so they say that they will come again tomorrow. After the visit the three friends flee of the Behala dumpsite and go into the city. They know that there was a crime with Jose Angelico, so they want to solve it themselves.
The book is really great to read. The Characters are interesting and the story is thrilling and fascinating. The book is not too difficult to understand. I recommend it especially for people who like detective stories.
